From 17th to 28th September 2014 Chaplin’s Circus is bringing its brand new pantomime-style circus show to Squires Garden Centre, Badshot Lea. The show tells the story of a 1920s circus on the brink of bankruptcy, struggling to survive in a modernizing world. In a last-ditch effort to reverse its ailing fortunes, the circus has enlisted an eccentric inventor, Orville Wright (of Wright Brothers’ fame), to build the world’s first human cannonball. For the first half of the show, the audience are seated backstage, where they can witness first-hand all of the trials and tribulations which go into making a successful circus show. However, during the second half of the performance, everything is flipped around, and the audience get to watch the finale of the show, as if they were in the audience of that 1920’s production. The show encompasses all of the elements that you would expect to find at a traditional circus (except there are no animals or painted faced-clowns), all weaved together into a pantomime format, to tell a compelling story which is fun for the whole family. Chaplin’s Circus has been in the press a lot recently. Here are some excerpts from recent articles: “Its so exciting...” -Daily Mail “This 1920s-themed show tells the story of a circus - the UK's largest - on the brink of bankruptcy.” - Daily Star “My favourite part is when the cannon explodes...
