The Merrymouth Inn is a 13th century stone built hostelry situated just outside the village of Fifield, 4 miles north of Burford with the Cotswold Wildlife Park, and 5 miles south of Stow on the Wold. The beautiful Bourton on the Water with its numerous attractions can be found 5 miles to the west. A short drive away can be found Cheltenham Racecourse, Cotswold Water Park at Cirencester, Blenheim Palace, Oxford, Stratford on Avon and Warwick Castle. The Inn is set in beautiful rolling countryside and is an ideal centre from which to explore the Cotswolds, whether by car, bicycle or on foot. The Merrymouth Inn has a long history dating back to the 13th century. Apparently there still exist underground passages from the Inn's cellar to the Abbey. But these have yet to be discovered. The Inn took its name from the Murimuth family who acquired the village of Fifield six centuries ago. At this time, even the village became known as 'Fifield of Murimuth'. Over the years it has been a hunting lodge, a Brewery owned Hostelry and now is a free house under the ownership of Chef Proprietors Bill Prince and Mo Rudd, formerly of the Red Lion, Brightwell cum Sotwell, South Oxfordshire. They pride themselves on providing freshly cooked food, real ale and an extensive wine list. Not least they believe in a friendly, informal and relaxing atmosphere.
